A

Anodising
An electrochemical formation of oxide film.

Anti-lifting Device
Hardware to prevent panels from being removed from tracks.

Atlantic Suite
Windows and doors for high end residential and commercial designs.

Awning Window
A window that opens from the inside and is hinged from the top.

B

Bifold Doors
Doors that concertina away from the building and rest at an angle of 90 degrees from the building when open.

Bifold Gear
Rolling mechanism to allow bifold panels to open and close.

Bifold Windows
Panels that fold together and stack to the side of the opening.

Bi-parting Doors
Sliding Doors where panels move in opposite directions.

Cavity Sliders
Door panel that slides into a wall cavity.

Colonial Glazing Bars
Horizontal and vertical beading trim fixed to the glass to create multiple small panels.

Coloured Glazing
Tinted glass.

Colour Matched
Handles and components that are coloured to match the doors and windows.

Composite Windows
Window products that are made up of aluminium on the exterior and timber on the interior.

Concealed
Internal Transoms and Mullions
Give a continuous glass wall appearance by concealing joins between panels.

Configurations
Combinations of windows and doors that are able to be manufactured.

Custom-make
Windows and doors that are made to individual size, colour, and shape requirements.

Drainage Holes
Path to drain water out of the window system.

Door Holdbacks
A component that latches the door panels against the building or structure when open.

Double Hung Windows
Windows that slide vertically with no protrusion from the building.

Double Glazing
Two or more panels of glass bonded to a perimeter metal spacer with a hermetically sealed airspace.

Entry Doors
Doors that are traditionally positioned at the front of the house to allow access into the building.

Euroslider®
An externally Sliding Door incorporating the Flat Surfaced Sill with one panel sliding in one direction or in two, without protruding from the building.

Eurostacker
An externally Sliding Door incorporating the Flat Surfaced Sill with two sliding panels in the same direction without protruding from the building.

Expressed Glazing
Visually highlighted mullions (or transoms).

Façade
Non-structural building envelope.

Flat Face
No bumps or grooves on the outer facing leaving a smooth clean surface.

Flat Surfaced Sill
Removal of tracks or channels from the sill section.

Float Glass
Glass that is floated from the furnace over a bed of molten tin.

Fly Screens
Fine mesh screens that prevent bugs and insects from entering the house.

Foldback® Bifold
Doors that concertina away from the building past the 90 degree line and sit against the building line when fully open.

French Doors
Two hinged doors, one hinged from the left and one hinged from the right, to allow a greater opening.

Fully Adjustable Frames
The part of the window or door that is fixed to the building.

Hardware
Locks, handles, hinges, and stays that are fitted to doors and windows to allow opening, closing and security.

Heavy Duty Wheel System
A higher specification to accommodate greater load capacity.

Hinged Doors
Single doors that are hinged on the left or right to allow access.

Hollow Box Section
Integral internal box used to provide strength to the window mullion.

Hoppers
Bottomed hinged window sash with a restricted opening width.

Horizontal Sliding Window
Windows that slide horizontally with no protrusion from the building

In Frame Passive Ventilation System
A patented ventilation system which can be built into all windows and sliding doors.

Insect Screens
Refer Fly Screens.

L

Laminated Glass
Two or more sheets of glass bonded together by heat and pressure with one or more sheets of PVB or CIP interlayer to produce a permanent sandwich.

Lead Lighting
The application of a material to simulate lead light.

Louvres
A set of horizontally parallel slats in a door or window, sloping outwards to throw off rain and admit air.

Mirror Glass
High quality float glass is backed with silver and protective coats of baked enamel paint.

Mullions
Any vertical pieces of aluminium that appear within the frame of the window between two glass panes.

Multi-Point Locking System
A locking system that locks the panels in multiple places when closed.

N

Noise Reducing Glass
Glass that incorporates a laminate to dampen noise.

O

Overhead Glazing
Opening or fixed windows that are positioned above a door product.

Over Height
Typically referred to doors over 2.4m high.

P

Pacific Suite
A complete range of Aluminium windows and doors suitable for residential designs.

Patent
A grant to an inventor assuring the sole right to make, use, and sell the invention for a limited period.

Pivot Door
Floor or overhead closing mechanism that pivots the door instead of hanging on hinges. Allows heavier and larger door panels.

Powder Coating
A decorative coating surface finish for aluminium windows and doors.

Pressure Equalization
External pressure and the pressure within the glazing system are equal, to allow the system to drain and prevent a driver of water ingress.

Prime Die Holder
Profile design manufacturer that owns the intellectual property for the system design.

Profile
Aluminium section shapes are commonly known as a profile.

R

Reflective Glass
Glass that utilises a permanent metallic coating reduce solar heat load on a building façade.

Re-glazing
Replacement of glass.

Restrictor Stays
A device that is fitted to windows to restrict the allowable opening span and to prevent the projection of the sash.

S

Safety Glass
Two or more layers of glass permanently bonded together with an interlayer or resin. If broken, the interlayer is designed to hold the glass together.

Sash
The part of a window that can mbe opened.

Screen Printed
Ceramic paint that is screen printed and permanently fused to the toughened glass surface.

Secondary Glazing
Additional internal glazing, normally for acoustic purposes.

Security Glass
Glass designed to resist physical attack, ballistic, and bomb blasts.

Security Screen
Lockable doors commonly used on doors to maintain security while providing ventilation.

Security Stays
Allow windows to be opened partially for ventilation or can be disengaged for full opening.

Seismic Frame
Frame designed to allow the system to move under earthquake loads.

Self Cleaning Glass
Glass that incorporates a pyrolytic coating that dissolves dirt and sheds water using natural UV light and rain.

Single Glazed
One panel of glass inserted into the window or door frame.

Sky Lights
Overhead glazed panels.

Sliding Door
A style of door that has one panel sliding horizontally internally, in one direction or in two, without protruding from the building.

Smooth Condensation Trays
A channel in the window frame that collects and drains condensation from the inside of the window to the outside of the house.

Spring Balance Systems
A mechanism that allows vertically sliding panels to operate, and maintain a position until closed.

Stacker Sliding Door
Two internal panels that slide horizontally in the same direction without protruding the building.

Stickform
Mullions are fitted to created the curtain wall on site.

Stile
Vertical section of door panels.

Stile Widths
Optional widths for vertical door panel sections.

Textured Glass
Patterns are embossed into the glass during manufacturing.

Timber Composite (Wood Clad)
Exterior aluminum and interior timber composition.

Timber Reveals
Timber trim to provide window and door sills.

Top Rolling Operating Gear
Sliding mechanism located in the head section.

Toughened Glass
Glass that is heated then rapidly cooled, resulting in the glass retaining high compressive stresses.

Transoms
Horizontal window and door section.

Two-Point Locking System
Seals the doors with a single action in two places.

U

Unitized
Factory assembled panels delivered to site.

V

Vision Rails
The horizontal piece of aluminium that appears within a door frame between two panes of glass.

W

Wide Bottom Rails
Depth of the bottom horizontal section of a door panel. Increased to replicate traditional timber doors.

Wide Throw (Parliament) Hinges
Special hinges to allow recessed doors to open 180°.

Wind Loadings
The wind forces a glazing system has been designed for.
